Best Manato Build Guide

Written by Phạm Ngọc Bảo Châu ·

Playstyle Overview

Manato is an A-Rank Fire Rupture DPS who can match or even surpass some S-Rank Agents. His Fire DMG is Sheer DMG scaling with Sheer Force (converted from HP), and his own HP is his combat resource. Most of his damage lands during Stun through his Chain Attack, Ultimate and EX Special Attack.

Build 75 Blazing Heart to enter Molten Edge: his Basic Attack is enhanced, and HP-consuming hits gain bonus CRIT DMG and Adrenaline. He has no passive Adrenaline regen, so he must have 80 Adrenaline ready for his EX Special Attack when Stun begins; Remnant Flame from his Chain Attack and Ultimate offsets the HP he burns. On the downside, many skills need levels, and he loses a lot of power without Lucia.

Best W-Engines

1
Grill O'WispS5
Grill O'Wisp

ATK 624 · HP 25%

His signature and the best choice at S5: HP%, unconditional Fire DMG and CRIT Rate on HP loss, with near full uptime since he burns HP constantly. At S1 it is still good, ranking just behind Wrathful Vajra. During Stun, briefly hold Return to Ashes - Sacrifice between Chain Attacks to refresh the buff.
Caged Fire ›

The equipper's Fire DMG increases by 15%. When the equipper's HP decreases, their CRIT Rate increases by 15% for 5s.

*Stats shown are at Base level.

2
Wrathful VajraS1
Wrathful Vajra

ATK 713 · HP 30%

A fine stat stick with HP% and CRIT Rate, but its Fire Sheer DMG buff needs EX Special Attacks, which Manato rarely uses, so it usually sits at 1 stack during Stun.
Purging Karmic Fire ›

CRIT Rate increases by 20%. When the equipper launches an EX Special Attack, their Fire Sheer DMG increases by 9%, stacking up to 2 times and lasting 20s. The duration of each stack is calculated separately.

*Stats shown are at Base level.

3
Qingming BirdcageS1
Qingming Birdcage

ATK 743 · HP 30%

High base stats, HP% and unconditional CRIT Rate. Its Ether buffs are wasted, so it falls behind S5 Grill O'Wisp, but it can edge out the S1 version.
Cloud Flow ›

CRIT Rate increases by 20%. When the equipper launches an EX Special Attack, the character gains the Qingming Companion effect, stacking up to 2 times and lasting 15s. On entering combat, immediately gain 2 stacks. Repeated triggers reset the duration. Each stack of the Qingming Companion effect increases the equipper's Ether DMG by 8%, and increases the Ultimate or EX Special Attack Ether Sheer DMG by 10%.

4
Radiowave JourneyS5
Radiowave Journey

ATK 594 · HP 25%

A big Sheer Force boost on Chain Attacks and Ultimates, matching his in-Stun damage, but it is hard to get to S5 and only marginally better than Puzzle Sphere. With it, Disc 4 should be CRIT Rate.
Easy Strides ›

When launching a Chain Attack or Ultimate, the equipper gains 1 stack of a buff effect. Each stack increases the equipper's Sheer Force by 80, stacking up to 3 times, and lasting 12s. The duration of each stack is calculated separately.

*Stats shown are at Base level.

5
Puzzle SphereS5
Puzzle Sphere

ATK 594 · ATK% 25%

The craftable option: more CRIT DMG after EX Special Attacks, but the ATK% main stat and a damage bonus that only applies to targets below 50% HP make it much weaker in Deadly Assault.
Ingenious Craft ›

Upon launching an EX Special Attack, the equipper's CRIT DMG increases by 16% for 12s. Additionally, if the target's current HP is below 50% of their Max HP, EX Special ATK DMG increases by 20%.

4-piece:

When using EX Special Attack, Chain Attack, or Ultimate, CRIT Rate increases by 4%, stacking up to 3 times and lasting 15s. Repeated triggers reset the duration. When having 3 stacks of this effect, Sheer DMG increases by 10%.

2
Woodpecker Electro
2-pc ›
2-piece:

CRIT Rate +8%

Yunkui Tales is the most consistent set: HP% from the 2-piece and up to 12% CRIT Rate plus Sheer DMG from the 4-piece. Its stacks are hard to keep outside Stun since his EX Special is expensive, but one EX Special and two Chain Attacks max it for the whole combo. 2-piece Woodpecker Electro is the recommended pairing.

2
Branch & Blade Song
2-pc ›
2-piece:

CRIT DMG +16%

2-piece Branch & Blade Song (+16% CRIT DMG) is also very strong since Manato raises his own CRIT Rate in Molten Edge; choose between it and Woodpecker Electro based on substats.

Aim for 90–100% CRIT Rate in combat, with Molten Edge, your W-Engine and the disc set covering what's missing out of combat. Disc 6 is always HP%; a Fire DMG Disc 5 is only slightly ahead of HP% even though Manato already has plenty of Fire DMG, so an HP% piece with better substats is fine. Disc 4 only needs CRIT Rate with Radiowave Journey.

Skill Priority

  1. Core Skill
  2. ›Chain Attack
  3. ›Basic Attack
  4. ›Assist
  5. ›Special Attack
  6. ›Dodge

Level his Core Skill first, as it boosts CRIT DMG on HP-consuming hits and Fire DMG in Molten Edge. Chain Attack/Ultimate, Basic Attack and Assist are his three main damage sources; from M6 onward, Assist Follow-Ups matter more than Basic Attacks. Special Attack comes after since his 80-Adrenaline EX Special is used sparingly; Dodge is last.

Best Teams for Manato

Most Used Teams Right Now

Manato's most used and highest scoring Deadly Assault team. Norma shares his Fire weakness matchups, her extra Chain Attacks help his Decibels and Yunkui Tales upkeep, and she deals a lot of damage herself.
Dialyn is Manato's best Stunner: his burst is concentrated in his Ultimate, so 2 Ultimates per Stun is a huge gain, and the longer Stun fits a full Assist Follow-Up chain. Watch his Decibels, since the conversion costs a Chain Attack.

Alternative Stunner Teams

His second best Stunner: Ju Fufu Stuns off-field through Aftershocks, leaving Manato the field time to build resources. Her Chain Attack, Ultimate and CRIT DMG buffs are very strong, and her higher Decibel cap and refund guarantee an Ultimate every Stun.
Trigger is still a decent pick without her Additional Ability thanks to her consistent damage buffs; give her an Impact W-Engine to make up for the lost Daze.
A viable A-Rank option with M6 Pulchra: she Stuns off-field through Aftershocks, needs little field time and works well with Rupture Agents.

Teams Without Lucia

Pan Yinhu is an accessible Support who buffs Sheer Force for Rupture Agents; weaker than Lucia, but the best fallback without her.
Lighter is only worth using for Manato alongside Orphie & Magus. This team can be surprisingly effective with good team Ultimate management, but it still falls far behind Lucia teams.

Best Bangboo for Manato

Miss Esme is the main pick when Manato runs with Lucia: two Spook Shack members activate its Additional Ability. Alternatives: Booressure, Knightboo or Exploreboo (they need a Support), and Sumoboo to help with Stun.

Basic Attack: Blazing Wind Slash

Press Basic to activate:

Perform up to three forward slashes, dealing Physical DMG.

During each slash, pressing Basic triggers Scorchwind, causing the attack to

While in the Molten Edge state, press Basic to activate:

Unleash up to four forward slashes, dealing Fire DMG.

If Manato's HP is above 30% when the skill is activated, 3.5% of his Max HP will

Mindscape Cinema

Which Mindscapes Are Worth It?

Manato's Mindscapes significantly change how he plays. M6 is where he becomes a true powerhouse, while M2 is key because it lets him deal damage outside Stun with Assist Follow-Ups. M1 and M4 mostly add stats and safety. M3 and M5 only add skill levels.

  • M1
Every 1% of HP lost (tallied) adds 0.4% Fire DMG to Assist Follow-Ups and Basic Attacks, up to 20%. The tally persists for the whole stage, so you can burn HP before the fight to build it early.
  • M2
Ignores 8% Fire RES in Molten Edge, and getting hit during Special Attack: Return to Ashes lets him go straight into an Assist Follow-Up. This is what lets Manato deal damage outside Stun without swapping.
  • M4
+8% Max HP (and therefore Sheer Force) and protection from fatal damage during Special Attack: Return to Ashes (once every 10s). Mostly a stat boost with a safety net.
  • M6
Special Attack: Return to Ashes on a Stunned enemy restores 75 Blazing Heart, grants 4 Remnant Flame and opens an Assist Follow-Up, which stacks up to +15% Fire DMG. Manato can unleash his strongest slash chain during Stun and keep the buff up almost permanently.
M1

Drifter's Rules of SurvivalRecommended

Whenever Manato loses HP, the amount of HP lost is tallied. Each 1% of his Max HP tallied increases the Fire DMG of Assist Follow-Ups and Basic Attacks by 0.4%, up to a max of 20%

Unfortunate children are all alike.

The once-kind voices, the warm lights, the joyful promises... all vanished without a farewell. Being formless, even the sharpest fangs could not hold them, nor the sharpest claws grasp them.

"I can eat just about anything, and I'm not too afraid of the cold - If there's a 'secret to surviving,' maybe it's just that."

M2

Day & Night, Kitchen & LoveRecommended

While in the Molten Edge state, Manato ignores 8% of a target's Fire RES. After being hit by an enemy while using Special Attack: Return to Ashes or Special Attack: Return to Ashes - Sacrifice, press Basic to trigger an Assist Follow-Up.

Perhaps this is what a peaceful family is - Manato, A-Cing, and A-Yuet all think of

themselves as the fortunate "child picked up and brought home." If there's anything left worth arguing about, it's probably just "who should eat the

last bit of vegetables.'

"It doesn't taste good? I'Il ask at Yum Cha sin if maybe I made a mistake somewhere...:

...Trade secret? But last time...I just stood there and the chef told me everything."

M3

Enter the Realm of Urban Legends

Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2

Getting established on a forum starts with a memorable nickname - everyone thinks they're bad at it, but for a dog Thiren who sometimes has to stay back for make-up exams in literature, it's especially tough.

"...You already know it, don't you? It's, uh... ahem, SailumeSadLoneGhost"

-You heard me!"

"Damn it. One of these days, I'm changing it to 'Mention My Old Name Again and I'Il See You in the Hollow.'"

M4

Childhood OathRecommended

Max HP increases by 8%. During Special Attack: Return to Ashes and Special Attack: Return to

Ashes - Sacrifice, when Manato takes fatal DMG, he remains in battle, with his HP not dropping below 1. This effect can trigger once every 10s.

Maybe every teenager imagines themselves as a lone wolf with cold eyes... but Manato had an edge in that regard. If not for the drowned ideals, he could have gone on pretending nothing had ever happened, just like everyone else.

"Like I said, that was just how I thought when I was eight-"

"So this is what a 'friend' is... You didn't treat me like I was fragile, but sometimes you don't treat me like a person either."

M5

Lone Shadow Returns to the Pack

Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv.+2

In truth, despite the barrier his appearance put up, Manato was popular with everyone.

Some made friends with him, some looked to him for protection, and some... tried to rope him into advertising.

"Sorry, I'm probably not the right choice to promote your shop.

"As for 'bench pressing,' I've never done it - unless you're referring to... being pinned by Ethereals and pushing up my greatsword to keep their claws off me?"

M6

Beyond Dreams of the PastRecommended

When Special Attack: Return to Ashes hits a Stunned enemy, Manato gains 75 Blazing Heart and 4 stacks of Remnant Flame, and pressing will launch an Assist Follow-Up. This Remnant Flame effect can trigger once every 20s. When his Assist Follow-Up hits an enemy, Manato's Fire DMG

increases by 3% for 8s, stacking up to 5 times. Repeated triggers reset the duration.

Manato set aside the dream of lone courage and embraced the friends he held dear Of course, these friends could still cause him trouble, like at Waifei Peninsula's specialty soup shop.

"When I said I'd cover the rear, I didn't mean while drinking coconut chicken soup."

"Then how come I'm the one on the front lines when it's scorpion soup?"

..But he charged ahead anyway.

Story

Details

Komano Manato, a member of Spook Shack and an exceptionally reliable person. Having lost his family in the fall of the old capital, he grew up alone in Waifei Peninsula until the day he happened to adopt two street children, A-Cing and A-Yuet. Since then, the three have lived as a family, depending on one another. It may be a young household, but to Manato, nothing matters more than looking after them.

Manato is currently enrolled at a company affiliated school in the city, where rumors paint him as the terrifying "school delinquent." The label likely comes from his intimidating appearance, though in reality, he's far more soft-hearted and generous than he seems.

At first, Manato really did want to do something to clear up the misunderstanding about being a delinquent, but for various reasons, his efforts didn't make much of an impact. Still, his optimism soon led him to realize that the title wasn't all bad. It let him dodge unnecessary social events, live without being bothered by strangers, and even leverage the "delinquent" image to sniff out stories of school ghost tales, all while standing up for classmates suffering from actual bullying.

But when it comes to grades, he really does live up to the "school delinquent" label of a company affiliated school student.

Chi Tiết

At times, Manato's disarming honesty and friendly nature lead to unexpected trouble. Whenever he shows up at the market or anywhere crowded with locals, he can't help but draw attention. Cheerful shop owners, stall vendors, and neighbors passing by love slipping their finest items to him as presents, along with warm reminders of little everyday matters.

After his parents passed away, Manato quickly learned how to take care of himself. He became an excellent cook and could even mend the clothes A-Cing and A-Yuet tore while playing.

At his company affiliated school internship, Manato was also greeted with enthusiasm. In such an environment, his problem of not being able to hold back his strength proved to be the best support the miners could ask for.

Ghi Chú Hợp Tác

It's amazing how Manato can remember every neighbor's name and little habits whenever they stop to greet him!

Being with Manato really lessens the fright of ghost stories...
